Rolvenden Windmill

Rolvenden Windmill is a wooden post mill that rises above the Kent landscape, featuring four sails and a single-story brick roundhouse at its base. The structure demonstrates the typical design of this milling type, with its rotating upper section that turns to catch the wind effectively.

The mill was built in 1772 and ground grain for the local population until 1885, when two of its sails were removed and its milling capacity permanently reduced. This marked the end of its active use in the regional grain trade.

The mill stands as a reminder of when grain processing was central to rural life in Kent, showing how communities depended on such buildings for their daily bread. Its presence in the landscape reflects the importance of milling work that shaped the region's character.

The mill sits on Benenden Road in Rolvenden and can be photographed from public areas surrounding it at any time of year. Visitors should explore from the public footpath, as direct access to the building interior is not typically available.

The mill became nationally recognized during the 1980s when it appeared in the opening credits of the British television series Mr Majeika. This brief television appearance transformed it into a recognizable landmark beyond its local area.
