Saltern Cove

Saltern Cove is a small bay on the English Riviera with a mixed beach of sand, shingle, and rocks that creates natural pools at low tide. The varied shoreline reveals different layers of the coast and offers views of nearby cliff faces.

The cove was shaped over millennia through erosion and its rock faces display stone layers from the Devonian and Permian periods. These geological sequences tell a long story of Earth's formation.

This protected marine area serves as an educational site within the English Riviera Geopark, where visitors study coastal ecosystems.

Access involves descending steep steps from the coastal footpath, so sturdy footwear is recommended for safety. The nearest car park is located on Cliff Park Road, a short walk from the entry point.

The cove extends far underwater beyond the low tide mark, creating a distinctive marine reserve beneath the waves. This submerged area supports its own community of marine plants and animals.
