Elberry Cove, Coastal cove in Torbay, England.
Elberry Cove is a small bay on the Torbay coast in Devon, England, with a shingle beach sheltered by wooded slopes on either side. The water is shallow near the shore, and the cove sits away from the larger, busier beaches of the area, making it noticeably quieter.
At the edge of the cove stand the remains of a 19th-century bathhouse built for Lord Churston, who owned much of the land around this part of the coast. The structure has partly crumbled over time, but its stone walls are still clearly visible near the waterline.
The shoreline of Elberry Cove appears in a novel by Agatha Christie, who grew up near Torbay and knew this stretch of coast well. Readers of her books sometimes walk here with a sense of recognition, connecting the scenery to the story.
The nearest parking is at Broadsands, from where a walk along the coastal path leads to the cove in a short time. The path is manageable for most people and follows the clifftop before descending to the beach.
Unlike most beaches along this part of the English coast, dogs are welcome here throughout the year with no seasonal restriction. The cove also sees water ski boats on the water during summer, which is unusual for such a small and tucked-away spot.
