Rye House Stadium, Racing stadium in Hoddesdon, England
Rye House Stadium was a racing venue in Hoddesdon that hosted both greyhound and speedway motorcycle events on its spacious grounds. The facility featured separate tracks designed for each type of racing competition throughout its operational years.
The stadium opened in 1934 and later became a training base for the Wembley Lions speedway team during the post-war era. Operations ceased in 2018 after more than 80 years of continuous racing activity.
During the 1970s, the stadium became central to British motorsport by hosting qualifying rounds for the Individual Speedway World Championship.
The site was located near the River Lea Navigation and could be accessed from Hoddesdon town center relatively easily. Visitors should know that the venue closed permanently and little of the original infrastructure remains today.
The land where the stadium stood derived its name from medieval buildings on the Isle of Rye, next to the original Rye House manor.
