Sheep on the Road, Bronze sculpture at Waterfront Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland
Sheep on the Road is a life-sized bronze sculpture at Waterfront Hall showing a shepherd with six sheep arranged together. The figures appear to be moving through the urban space, creating a moment of rural life frozen in the city.
The sculpture was created in 1991 by Northern Irish sculptor Deborah Brown and originally commissioned for Riddell Hall. It was later moved to its current location at the Waterfront.
The sculpture depicts the enduring presence of sheep farming in Northern Ireland, reflecting agricultural practices that shaped local communities for generations.
The sculpture sits at the entrance of Waterfront Hall and is easy to spot while exploring Belfast's riverside area. You can view the bronze details from multiple angles as you pass by.
The Laganside Corporation acquired the bronze group in 1999, making it a recognized part of Belfast's public art collection. This acquisition helped establish the art presence along the riverside.
