Belfast Wheel, Ferris wheel at City Hall grounds, Belfast, Northern Ireland
The Belfast Wheel was a large observation wheel located on the City Hall grounds in central Belfast, Northern Ireland. Its enclosed capsules rotated slowly, giving riders a view across the city rooftops and toward Belfast Lough.
The wheel opened in November 2007 as a joint project between Belfast City Council and the Department for Social Development. It closed in April 2010 after operating for just under three years.
The wheel's location near City Hall sparked discussions about relocating the Titanic Memorial before the 2012 commemorative events.
The wheel was open year-round in most weather conditions. Visibility was best on clear days, when the view extended well beyond the city rooftops.
In June 2009, a person climbed the outside of the structure, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. The incident briefly drew public attention to the wheel for reasons other than the views it offered.
