Windsor House, Office skyscraper in Bedford Street, Belfast, Northern Ireland
Windsor House is a 23-floor tower on Bedford Street in central Belfast, rising to about 80 meters (260 feet). It is easy to spot from a distance thanks to its green elevator shaft, which runs visibly along the outside of the building.
Windsor House was built in the 1960s as an office tower and for many years was the tallest building in Northern Ireland. It was sold in 2015 and converted into the Grand Central Hotel, which opened in 2018.
The building stands near Belfast City Hall, in a part of the city center where office blocks and hotels sit side by side. Inside, the hotel lobby gives the space a new public role that the original office building never had.
The building is easy to reach on foot from Belfast City Hall and sits right on Bedford Street in the city center. It now operates as a hotel, so visitors can enter the lobby without needing an appointment.
An IRA bomb damaged the building in 1992, yet it was repaired and continued to function as an office block for decades afterward. Today there is little trace of that event for visitors walking past.
