Skytrak, Flying roller coaster at Granada Studios Tour, Manchester, England
Skytrak was a steel roller coaster featuring a single rail with five individual cars where riders sat in a forward-leaning position facing downward. The track stretched 391 meters and reached speeds of up to 45 kilometers per hour.
The coaster opened in October 1997 as part of the Granada Studios Tour amusement park in Manchester. It operated for just over a year before the park closed permanently in 1998.
The ride took its name from a segment in the television show Gladiators, linking the attraction to the entertainment landscape of that era. This connection gave fans of the program a special reason to experience it.
Riders needed to be at least 140 centimeters tall to experience this coaster. Since each car held only one passenger, the ride had lower capacity than typical roller coasters, so arriving early in the day was worthwhile.
The ride experience was truly one-of-a-kind because passengers lay face-down while flying through the air, seeing the ground rushing beneath them. This unusual viewpoint made every moment of the journey feel distinctly different from a standard coaster.
