St Bartholomew's Church, Colne

St. Bartholomew's Church in Colne is a stone church with a 62-foot (19 m) tower featuring crenellated parapets, gargoyles, and pointed arches. The building includes two north aisles and was constructed during the Renaissance.

The church originated in the 12th century, but the current structure was built during the 16th century. Extensive renovations between 1889 and 1891 reinforced its Victorian Gothic appearance.

The baptismal font was given by Lawrence Towneley in 1590 and displays heraldic shields showing scenes of the Passion. This object remains an important part of worship services in this church today.

The church is open to visitors during specific weekday hours. It is advisable to check local opening times in advance as access may vary seasonally.

A medieval stone cross stands in the churchyard, brought here from Laneshawbridge. Local soldiers once prayed at this cross before departing for military service.
