St. Blaise's Well, Historic holy well at Bishop's Palace in Bromley, England

The ancient well sits within a Pulhamite rockery next to a small lake that was previously part of the Bishop's Palace moat.

King Ethelbert II of Kent granted the spring to Bishop Eardwulf around 750 AD, leading to the construction of a well marked by oak trees.

The water source became a pilgrimage destination with papal indulgences offering 40 days of penance remittance for confessions at the adjacent chapel.

The chalybeate water contains iron deposits and flows slowly, with mineral content exceeding that found in the waters of Tunbridge Wells.

Surgeon Thomas Reynolds discovered oak plank steps in 1756, indicating an early medieval construction method for accessing the water source.
