St. George's Church, Beckenham, Victorian parish church in Beckenham, England.
St. George's Church is a Victorian parish church in Beckenham featuring a tall tower completed in 1903. The structure displays ragstone walls with ashlar trim, buttresses, and a battlement topped with corner pinnacles.
The original church structure dated back to the 12th century and underwent major rebuilding between 1885 and 1887. Architect W. Gibbs Bartleet directed this reconstruction, which gave the building its present Victorian character.
The stained glass windows made in the 1960s bring a modern look to the interior space. They show how the community updated this place while keeping its religious purpose alive.
The church welcomes visitors during its regular services and outside of worship times by arrangement. Access to the building is straightforward, and a visit can be easily combined with exploring the surrounding Beckenham area.
The churchyard contains a timber lychgate from the 13th century, one of the oldest surviving examples of its kind in England. This rare wooden gateway predates the Victorian reconstruction by centuries.
