Kelsey Park

Kelsey Park is a 32-hectare green space in south London built on the grounds of a former manor estate, featuring lakes, woodland, and ornamental gardens. A network of paths connects these different sections, allowing visitors to walk through varied landscape types.

The land belonged to the Kelsey family from the 15th century, and a manor house was built around 1408. The private grounds eventually became a public park that serves the community today.

Local volunteers maintain the grounds through regular work, and community groups organize activities that draw residents throughout the year. This collective care shapes how the place functions and feels for everyday visitors.

The space offers tennis courts, a mini-golf course, children's play areas, and a cafe for refreshments. The paths are most accessible after rain has cleared and during daylight hours for safe navigation.

The central lake contains Heron Island, a nesting and feeding ground for various water bird species that change seasonally. This natural island creates a rare habitat in the middle of an urban area.
