St Mary's Church, Studley Royal, Gothic Revival church in Studley Royal Park, England
St Mary's Church is a Gothic Revival building in Studley Royal Park featuring a four-bay structure with clerestory aisles and a west tower. The tower displays Early English styling with colored marble elements integrated into its design.
Construction of the church began in 1871 following Frederick Vyner's death in Greece. Lady Mary Vyner and Lady Ripon funded the project using money collected as ransom intended for Vyner.
The interior holds Tennessee marble, encaustic floor tiles, and stained glass windows depicting biblical scenes. These elements create a rich visual experience as you walk through the space.
The building is open from late March through October with daily hours typically from 1 PM to 3:30 PM via the National Trust entrance. It is wise to check opening times in advance, as schedules may shift with the seasons.
The initial budget was estimated at 15,000 pounds but costs tripled due to the addition of mosaics, marbles, and intricate decorative work. This substantial increase reveals the extraordinary quality lavished on the interior finishes.
