St Lawrence Church, Morden, Grade I listed Anglican church in Morden, England
St Lawrence Church is an Anglican place of worship built in red brick standing at the highest point of Morden with a square west tower and steeply pitched red tiled roof. A projecting south-west porch extends from the structure, creating a distinctive entrance that defines the building's character.
The current building was constructed in 1636, replacing an earlier church that had stood on the site and witnessed the religious changes of the Reformation. Its creation followed the closure of nearby Merton Abbey during the reign of Henry VIII.
The church takes its name from Saint Lawrence and has served as a spiritual center for the local community across many generations. Visitors can experience how people still gather here to mark important life moments and maintain traditions that connect them to their surroundings.
The interior remains generally accessible for visitors outside of services, and the elevated location provides good views across the surrounding area. The south-west porch entrance is easy to locate and leads directly into the building's interior.
The interior maintains an original circular shaped roof structure with exposed wooden tie beams, creating an intimate impression inside. The plastered and whitewashed walls provide a calm backdrop for the religious artwork and colored glass that decorate the space.
