Teessaurus Park, Sculpture garden and park in Middlesbrough, England.
Teessaurus Park is a ten-acre park with six life-sized steel dinosaur sculptures positioned along the River Tees. The collection includes a triceratops, brachiosaurus, brontosaurus, mammoth, stegosaurus, and tyrannosaurus, all crafted from steel.
The park opened in 1979 with its first steel triceratops sculpture, designed by Genevieve Glatt and made by Harts of Stockton. Additional dinosaur sculptures were added during the 1980s, created partly by local workers through a government employment training program.
The name Teessaurus combines the River Tees with dinosaurs, marking the site's identity as a playful landmark. The steel creatures have become part of how locals and visitors understand the area's shift from heavy industry to public green space.
The park can be reached via Riverside Park Road with free parking available near the main pathways. Visiting during daylight hours and fair weather helps you see the steel sculptures clearly and walk the grounds comfortably.
The site was built on former industrial land that had been a slag heap before becoming a public green space. This transformation demonstrates how the region creatively repurposed its steel-making past into something families and visitors can enjoy today.
