St Agatha's, Landport, Grade II* listed church in Landport, England
St Agatha's Church is a church building with Italianate architectural features located in Landport next to the Cascades Shopping Centre on Marketway. The structure displays elements of this style both on its exterior and inside, giving the space its distinctive appearance.
Construction of the building began in 1893 under architect Joseph Henry Ball and Irish Anglo-Catholic priest Father Robert William Radclyffe Dolling. After closing in 1954, it served as a naval storage facility for 4 decades before being restored to religious use.
The church serves the community through the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, blending Catholic practices with Anglican traditions. Visitors can experience this mixture of both religious worlds reflected in the daily services and community gatherings held here.
The building is located in a commercial area next to a shopping center and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should be aware this is an active place of worship where quiet respect for others is expected.
The building has an unusual history, serving as a naval storage facility for 4 decades after its closure as a religious space. Today it has returned to worship while also hosting concerts, giving it a dual purpose in the commercial district.
