Stonehaven Open Air Pool, Art Deco seawater swimming pool in Stonehaven, Scotland.
Stonehaven Open Air Pool is a seawater lido on the Aberdeenshire coast, built in the Art Deco style and listed as a category B historic building. The complex has a large main pool, a separate children's pool, sun terraces, a cafe, and on-site parking, with equipment available for swimmers with reduced mobility.
The pool was built in the early 1930s and opened in 1934, at a time when outdoor bathing was becoming popular along the Scottish coast. It has been renovated more than once over the decades to keep it in use, and remains open today.
The pool draws local families and swimmers who come back season after season, making it feel like a shared neighbourhood ritual rather than just a facility. The sun terraces around the main pool are a good place to notice how this kind of outdoor bathing remains part of everyday life on the northeast Scottish coast.
The water is heated throughout the year, so a visit is possible even on cool or overcast days, which are common on the northeast Scottish coast. Parking is available directly on site, and the layout of the complex is easy to follow.
Although it sits on the Scottish coast, the seawater is actively heated, making it one of the very few outdoor pools in Scotland that can genuinely be used throughout the year. It is also one of only three outdoor seaside pools of this kind still operating in the whole country.
