Tor y Foel

Tor y Foel is a summit in the Brecon Beacons National Park that reaches approximately 550 meters and overlooks water and river valleys below. The terrain around it consists of open moorland and grassland that rises gradually from surrounding communities.

Evidence of quarrying has been found near this summit, where stone was extracted for roof tile production in earlier centuries. The activity shaped the local landscape and supported nearby communities over time.

The summit represents a significant location within Welsh outdoor traditions, connecting generations of locals through shared experiences of mountain walking.

The hill can be reached via multiple routes, including a bridleway from Llangynidr and a minor road on the western side. Plan your visit for dry conditions to make the walk easier and safer.

The rock layers here include sandstone and mudstone from the Brownstones Formation dating back to the early Devonian period. These distinctive reddish-toned stones are visible throughout the region and give the landscape its particular character.
