The Argoed is a two-story stone building with slate roofing and multi-pane sash windows located in the Penalt area. The structure displays coursed stonework and sits elevated in the Welsh countryside with a long access drive from the nearby road.
The building was constructed in the late 16th century by Christopher Probert and underwent modifications in the early 17th century by Sir George Probert. A major renovation followed in 1865 when Richard Potter, associated with the Great Western Railway, acquired and updated the property.
Richard Potter, Chairman of the Great Western Railway, purchased The Argoed in 1865 and initiated substantial renovations to shape its current form.
The property is situated about 600 meters south of Penallt and is reached via a private drive branching from the nearby by-road. The elevated setting provides views across the surrounding Welsh countryside.
Robert Plant, the lead singer of Led Zeppelin, owned the property between 1985 and 1990. This period added an unexpected chapter to the building's story of notable residents.
