The Boathouse, Twickenham

The Boathouse, Twickenham, Modern architectural structure in Twickenham, England.

The Boathouse is a modern architectural structure in Twickenham situated on the River Thames bank across two floors. The building contains soundproofed studios, a paved terrace, a glazed conservatory, a double garage, and parking spaces, arranged around garden walkways.

The structure was built in the late 1960s as Dick Waite's Boathouse during the redevelopment of Sims' Boatyard. It originally served meeting and office functions for boat-building operations before transitioning to different uses.

Pete Townshend from The Who converted the building into Eel Pie Studios from 1976 onward, attracting musicians and producers who recorded landmark albums within its walls. The space became a working hub for the local music community during that era.

The building is located within the St. Margaret's Estate Conservation Area on Ranelagh Drive, positioning it within a protected historic zone. Visitors should note that parking is available on-site, making access straightforward for those arriving by car.

The building features raised wood-strip flooring with concealed cable runs integrated throughout its structure for cleaner design. The upper level combines actual brick veneer with faux timber panels, showing practical construction choices made during its development.
