Principal Met Hotel, Victorian hotel in Leeds, England
The Principal Met Hotel is a four-story building with a red terracotta facade and about 120 guest rooms furnished in Victorian style. Inside, there are 14 event spaces including a large ballroom, and the hotel sits close to Leeds train station.
The building was designed by architects Harry Sutton Chorley and J.W. Connon and opened in 1898 as the Hotel Metropole. It was later renamed and today holds Grade II Listed status to protect its historical importance.
The cupola on the roof came from a former textile hall, connecting the building to Leeds' manufacturing past. Walking around the exterior, you see how the building fit into the city's industrial heritage.
The hotel is easy to reach on foot from the city center and has plenty of space for different types of guests and events. It makes sense to note the location near the train station if you are arriving by rail.
The building appeared in the 1991 British television series The Darling Buds of May and had a different name in the show. This film connection is unknown to many visitors.
