The Morgan family had the estate built between 1664 and 1672, integrating parts of their earlier medieval residence. The house remained in the family for over three hundred years before passing to other owners later.
The estate served as home to the Morgan family for centuries and their influence shows in the rooms and furnishings throughout the building. Visitors today can walk through different chambers and see how a wealthy Welsh family lived across generations.
The grounds cover about 90 acres (36 hectares) with walking paths and gardens managed by the National Trust. The location near the M4 motorway allows good access for travelers from different directions.
A horse named Sir Briggs that survived the Charge of the Light Brigade with its rider Godfrey Morgan lived here until its death. The animal was buried on the grounds after passing and received its own grave marker.
