Tredegar House Country Park, Country park in Newport, Wales
Tredegar House Country Park is a large green space in Newport with walking paths, formal gardens, tree-covered areas, and a substantial lake near the M4 motorway junction. The grounds span approximately 90 acres and are managed by the National Trust.
The land belonged to the Morgan family from Tudor times onwards, with the family managing the estate across several centuries. William Morgan carried out extensive work on the main house and gardens during the 1600s, reshaping much of what visitors see today.
The park hosts weekly running events on Saturday mornings that draw over 300 people from nearby neighborhoods. These regular gatherings create a community meeting point for runners of all abilities.
The park is free to access and features wide paths suitable for walking and exploration at a leisurely pace. Parking is available on site, and the location is convenient near the motorway junction while remaining accessible by public transport.
Two buildings on the grounds hold the highest protection status for historic structures, including the main house and attached stables with their detailed architectural features. These structures showcase the skilled craftsmanship and design typical of substantial Welsh country estates.
