University Hospital Coventry, hospital in England
University Hospital Coventry is a large hospital located in Walsgrave on Sowe with over 1000 beds and 26 operating rooms serving the surrounding area. It provides emergency care, planned surgeries, maternity services, and specialized treatment across multiple departments with modern facilities and equipment.
The hospital opened in 2006, replacing two older hospitals that previously occupied the same site, with construction beginning in 2002. It was later designated as a trauma centre in 2012 and gained wider recognition in 2020 when the first vaccine dose outside of trials was administered there.
The hospital is accessible by public bus, train, car, and bicycle, with paid parking available and free options for frequent visitors. Free wheelchair access is provided near the emergency entrance, and staff and volunteers are available to help with directions and answer questions throughout the facility.
The hospital has a helipad on its roof for rapid emergency transport of critical patients. It also operates a hospital radio station running 24 hours a day that plays music and provides information to help patients and visitors feel more supported during their time there.
