Waterloo Hotel

The Waterloo Hotel is a Georgian building in Edinburgh's Old Town featuring tall sash windows, detailed cornices, and a distinctive cupola that rises above the roofline. The structure spans eight stories and now operates as a hotel with contemporary facilities for guests.

Construction took place in the early 1800s under architect Archibald Elliot as the city was rebuilding after major conflicts. The building eventually closed as a hotel and was adapted for office use for much of the 20th century.

The building served as a gathering place for Edinburgh's society, where local residents came together for significant public occasions. These events shaped how people in the city marked important moments in their shared life.

The hotel is situated conveniently near public transportation hubs in the city center, making it easy to reach other areas. Guest rooms feature modern amenities, and the building includes an indoor swimming pool and fitness facilities.

The original cupola from 1819 still crowns the roofline and once illuminated a grand ballroom that spanned two stories beneath it. This architectural feature allowed natural light to flood the largest gathering space in the building.
