Victoria Pier, Grade II listed pier in Colwyn Bay, Wales.
Victoria Pier is a Grade II listed structure built in 1900 that extends over Colwyn Bay and features cast iron columns supporting its construction. A wooden walkway once allowed visitors to traverse the pier and take in views of the surrounding Welsh coastline.
The pier was built in 1900 as the final seaside structure of its kind along the Welsh coast, but later suffered two major fires that caused significant damage. A reconstruction in 1934 restored and modernized the structure with a new pavilion.
The pier once served as a gathering place where visitors came to enjoy the seaside atmosphere and take in the views. Its decorated spaces reflected the artistic tastes and entertainment styles that were popular along the Welsh coast during the early 20th century.
The pier has been closed to visitors since 2004 and access is not currently available for walking or exploring the structure. You can view it from the shore or nearby areas while learning about plans for future restoration work.
The 1934 rebuilding included striking murals by Eric Ravilious and Mary Adshead, artists whose work represented important artistic movements of that era. These painted decorations make the pier a notable example of early 20th-century design thinking applied to seaside entertainment architecture.
