Wentworth Castle

Wentworth Castle is a Grade I listed castle in Stainborough featuring a grand country house with a baroque east wing. The wing contains a 180-foot (55 meter) gallery divided by marble columns with Corinthian capitals.

Thomas Wentworth purchased the estate in 1708 and began extensive renovations, engaging military architect Johann von Bodt for the initial design. Building work through the 18th century shaped the property's final appearance.

The grounds hold several decorative structures that give the estate its character. These buildings reflect the artistic interests of former owners and invite visitors to explore.

The estate was developed by Thomas Wentworth to compete with his cousin's nearby Wentworth Woodhouse, showing the ambition behind the project. This family rivalry drove the elaborate architectural plans.
