Wormleighton Manor, Manor house in Wormleighton, England
Wormleighton Manor is a house in Warwickshire with multiple sections including a northern wing, a gatehouse, and a tower cottage built from pale stone. The structures display Tudor architectural features with decorative carved elements visible on the walls and other surfaces.
The Spencer family built the manor in 1512 as their residence, but Royalist forces damaged much of it during the English Civil War in 1645. What remained afterward was restored and adapted rather than rebuilt as it had been.
The Spencer family connection runs deep through this place, as members of this influential household shaped its character over centuries. The library they assembled here became a significant collection before being moved elsewhere.
This is a private residence, so access may be restricted and it is best to check beforehand about visiting opportunities. The various structures are spread across the grounds, so allow time to walk between them and view the details.
Oak paneling and stained glass windows from the original interior were moved to another Spencer family residence after the Civil War damage. These pieces can still be seen at their relocated home today.
