Wolverhampton Art Gallery
Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Art museum in City of Wolverhampton, England.
Wolverhampton Art Gallery is housed in a two-story Bath stone building with six red granite columns and decorative stonework on its facade. Inside, the space displays artworks spanning from historical periods to contemporary times, arranged across multiple galleries.
This building was constructed in the 19th century and opened in 1884 after funding from a local industrialist made its construction possible. The collection expanded over decades through donations and acquisitions that broadened its scope.
The gallery maintains a collection of 20,000 objects, including the 1614 Flemish Baroque painting 'Peace and Plenty Binding the Arrows of War' by Abraham Janssens.
The gallery opens most days of the week and also on Sundays, offering straightforward access to the building. Display spaces are spread across two floors and can be reached by stairs or elevator.
The collection holds over 20,000 objects, including a remarkable group of Japanese tsuba from earlier periods. These decorative sword guards arrived at the museum through local donations and now form part of its distinctive holdings.
