East Cliff and Warren Country Park, Coastal country park in Folkestone, England.
East Cliff and Warren Country Park is a coastal park in Folkestone featuring white chalk cliffs and steep paths that lead down to the beach. Three historic Martello towers stand along the cliff edge and define its landscape.
In 1915, a massive landslide shifted 1.5 million cubic meters of chalk and buried the Warren Halt railway station under the debris. This dramatic event left permanent marks on the cliff face.
The land was given to Folkestone by the Earls of Radnor in 1924, creating a shared space where locals and visitors have walked for nearly a century. The three Martello towers scattered along the top serve as reminders of past coastal defense concerns.
The park offers multiple walking trails, including sections of the Saxon Shore Way and North Downs Way, which connect Folkestone to Dover. The steep paths require good footwear and caution, especially after wet weather.
The ground beneath the park holds numerous fossils and geological layers, making it a protected site for scientific research and study. Visitors sometimes discover fossils naturally exposed in the rock faces while walking.
