Millfield, Private boarding school in Street, Somerset, England
Millfield is a boarding school in Street, Somerset, spreading across roughly 240 acres with nineteen separate houses for boys and girls. The grounds also hold sports facilities such as a swimming pool and several playing fields, along with teaching buildings and a library.
Jack Meyer founded the institution in 1935 in a former Clark family manor house and began with seven pupils from India. Over the decades the school grew and expanded its buildings and facilities considerably.
Students come from more than seventy countries and bring their languages and traditions into daily house life. Shared events like music evenings or theatre productions show the different backgrounds of the community.
The grounds are extensive and most areas are reachable on foot or by bicycle. Visitors should check in at reception and will be directed to the relevant buildings.
Several former pupils have competed at Olympic Games since the mid-20th century and train here in facilities such as a fifty-meter pool. Equestrian facilities are also available for preparation.
