Mission Theatre, Grade II listed theatre in Bath, England
The Mission Theatre is a Grade II listed building on Corn Street in Bath that houses two performance spaces: a main hall with around 100 seats and a smaller venue upstairs with about 30 seats. Both spaces can be configured for different types of performances, from traditional seating to more flexible arrangements.
Built in 1797 as a Congregational meeting hall, the structure was later adapted during World War II to serve as a base for Air Raid Wardens. Its evolution from religious gathering space to wartime function shows how the building responded to different community needs over time.
A local theatre company uses this space to stage productions throughout the year, creating a gathering place for the community. The mixed programming reflects the varied tastes of Bath's audiences and keeps the historic building alive with performances.
The building is centrally located in Bath on Corn Street and includes an on-site bistro that serves food during daytime hours and before evening shows. Visitors can check the current schedule ahead of time and take advantage of the bistro for meals when planning their visit.
Following a Community Asset Transfer in 2021, this building is secured as a theatre and cultural space for the next 97 years. This long-term commitment ensures it will remain a stable venue for performances and artistic activities in Bath.
