Honourable Artillery Company Museum, Military museum in Islington, England
The Honourable Artillery Company Museum is a military museum in the London Borough of Islington, housed within Armoury House, a building completed in 1735. The collection covers uniforms, weapons, armour, and personal items belonging to soldiers from across several centuries of service.
The regiment was granted its Royal Charter in 1537, which makes it the oldest of its kind in the British Army. Over the centuries it took part in most of the major conflicts that shaped British military history.
The Medal Room displays sets of military decorations collected over centuries, including Victoria Cross awards that former members and their families have given to the collection.
The museum is generally open only to regiment members and their guests, so it is worth contacting them in advance before planning a visit. Asking about access options ahead of time will save any wasted journey.
The Medal Room holds several Victoria Cross awards donated by former members or their families, which makes it one of the more personal corners of the collection. The regiment is still an active Army Reserve unit, so some of the items on display date from just a few years ago.
