Holy Trinity Church of Marylebone, Anglican church in Westminster, England
Holy Trinity Church of Marylebone is a church building in Westminster featuring an entrance with four large Ionic columns and a lantern steeple along the Marylebone Road. The ground floor and basement now house The Wedding Gallery, while the upper floor functions as an events venue called One Marylebone.
The building was designed in 1828 by architect John Soane and was one of the Waterloo churches funded by Parliament to commemorate Napoleon's defeat. These churches were constructed as monuments to military victory and the return to peace.
The building once housed Penguin Books' first warehouse from 1936 onward, with a children's slide used to move books down into the large crypt. This creative adaptation shows how the church space served a completely different purpose for a famous publishing company.
The interior spaces are now open for various events and exhibitions, with different floors serving different activities and functions. Visitors should note that opening times and access may vary depending on current uses and bookings.
The building features an external pulpit facing Marylebone Road, commemorating Reverend William Cadman, who was known for his powerful preaching voice. This feature is a rare reminder of a local clergyman whose influence extended beyond the congregation.
