Seaford House, Listed mansion in Belgrave Square, City of Westminster, England
Seaford House is a grand aristocratic residence on Belgrave Square with four main stories and a white stucco exterior. It ranks among London's largest private mansions and showcases refined classical architecture.
Architect Philip Hardwick designed this residence in 1842 for the Earl of Sefton as a major private commission in London's Westend. Lord Howard de Walden purchased it in 1902 and gave it its present name.
The building serves as headquarters for the Royal College of Defence Studies, hosting educational programs for military and civilian leaders from around the world. Visitors can see how this grand space functions as a center for strategic learning and dialogue.
The mansion opens to the public only during the annual Open House Weekend in September. Plan your visit accordingly, as public access is limited to these specific dates.
The 1902 renovations added a striking marble staircase with elaborate friezes and detailed wood paneling that exemplifies Victorian craftsmanship. This interior work is often overlooked by visitors despite being a defining feature of the house.
