St Anne's Church, Edge Hill, Gothic Revival church in Edge Hill, England
St Anne's Church is a Gothic Revival structure built from red sandstone with a slate roof located in Edge Hill, Liverpool. The west tower with angle buttresses runs along Overbury Street, while the interior contains a six-bay nave with side aisles and a three-bay chancel featuring quatrefoil columns.
The building was designed by Charles Hansom and constructed between 1843 and 1846 by monks from Downside Abbey. Significant expansions were added in the 1880s by the Pugin family architects.
The church serves as a Roman Catholic parish within the Liverpool Archdiocese and remains an active gathering place for the local faith community. It continues to shape spiritual life in the area through its regular services and community gatherings.
The church is readily accessible and allows visitors to explore the interior and appreciate the architectural details. Plan to spend time examining the various sections and features of the building carefully.
The church interior houses a three-manual pipe organ originally built by Henry Willis and Sons that has remained playable through multiple renovations. This instrument represents fine Victorian organ craftsmanship and continues to be a notable feature of the space.
