St Margaret and St Andrew's Church, Littleham, Exmouth
St Margaret and St Andrew's Church, Littleham, Exmouth, Medieval parish church in Littleham, Exmouth, England.
St Margaret and St Andrew's Church is a Grade II* listed building in Littleham with architectural elements ranging from the 13th century through Victorian alterations. The building displays different styles and structures that reflect how the church was modified and expanded over many centuries.
The Drake family funded construction of the North Aisle in the 16th century, which remains called Drakes Aisle. This shows how wealthy families left their mark by supporting the building and expansion of the church.
The church windows hold fragments of stained glass from the 15th century showing Saint Roche, Archangel Michael, and Christ. These images reflect how worshippers have gathered and prayed in this space for generations.
The church is accessible from outside at any time and welcomes visitors during or outside of service hours. The surrounding paths and churchyard are easy to navigate, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace.
The churchyard holds the tomb of Lady Frances Nelson, wife of Lord Nelson, and Admiral Sir Fairfax Moresby, after whom Port Moresby was named. These two remarkable figures rest here, each with their own significant connection to British naval history and exploration.
