St Peter's Church, Delamere, Gothic Revival church in Delamere, England.
Description
St Peter's Church is a Gothic Revival church in Delamere built from sandstone and slate, featuring a west tower with crenellations and gargoyles. The main prayer space has two bays with short transepts extending to either side.
History
The church was founded in 1817 with Freemasons' financial support to commemorate Wellington's victory at the Battle of Waterloo. This founding purpose shaped the building's character as a memorial to a significant military event.
Culture
The building is named after Saint Peter and contains stained glass windows from 1906 that cast colored light across the interior during services. A two-manual organ by P. Conacher provides music for the regular worship that takes place here.
Practical
The church serves the Anglican communities of Delamere and Oakmere and hosts services regularly throughout the year. Visitors should check opening times in advance, as access may be limited outside of scheduled services.
