Statue of Edward VII

Statue of Edward VII, Bronze royal statue in Centenary Square, Birmingham, England

The Statue of Edward VII stands in Centenary Square and depicts the king in field marshal uniform. The figure holds the classical insignia of British monarchy and is surrounded by three bronze sculptural groups that represent symbolic meanings.

The Birmingham Mail newspaper organized a fundraising campaign in 1910 to finance this memorial. The project received public support and was later extensively restored, with missing elements such as the scepter and orb being replaced.

The statue demonstrates the strong connection between Birmingham and the British monarchy through its detailed representation of royal regalia and symbols.

The memorial is located outside Baskerville House and is easily accessible when visiting Centenary Square. The best time to visit is during daylight to fully see the details of the statue and surrounding sculptures.

The three bronze sculptural groups surrounding the monument represent the ideals of Peace, Education, and Progress from the early 20th century. These allegorical works display the hopes and values of the era in which the memorial was created.
