St John the Evangelist's Church, Kirkdale, Gothic Revival parish church in Kirkdale, England
St John the Evangelist's Church is a Gothic Revival parish church in Liverpool built with rough-faced stone walls and ashlar bands. The building has windows set between buttresses, a slate roof covering the interior, and round columns supporting a wooden roof structure inside.
The church was built in 1885 following designs by architects J. and B. Sinnott. A major renovation took place in 1927 that expanded and updated the interior spaces.
The church is named after one of the four evangelists and was built to serve the Catholic community of Kirkdale. Visitors can still see the original furnishings that shaped the religious life of this neighbourhood over generations.
The main entrance is located on Fountains Road and the church is regularly open for services. Visitors should remember that this is an active place of worship, so respectful behaviour and appropriate dress are expected.
The altar was designed and crafted in 1898 by the renowned workshop of Pugin & Pugin. This family was known for shaping many important Catholic churches across England during that era.
