Wesley Methodist Church, Chester, Methodist church in Chester, United Kingdom
Wesley Methodist Church stands on St John Street with a symmetrical brick facade featuring a central gable and round-arched windows. Inside, four-bay arcades with Ionic columns create the main structure, while decorative stained glass windows from 1914 fill the walls with colored light.
The building was constructed in 1811 following designs by Thomas Harrison. A major renovation took place in 1906 when architects P H and W T Lockwood redesigned significant portions of the structure.
The church is named after John Wesley, founder of Methodism. Visitors today encounter an active community space where people gather for shared activities and social connection.
The center welcomes visitors Tuesday through Saturday from 11 AM to 2 PM. It is located on a main street in Chester's town center, making it easy to reach on foot from nearby attractions.
The building displays a striking combination of brown and red Ruabon bricks, with the color variations marking different construction phases over time. The slate roof covering the entire structure showcases the careful craftsmanship that went into its design.
