Witanhurst, Grade II listed mansion in Highgate, England
Witanhurst is a Georgian Revival mansion in the Highgate area of London with over 90,000 square feet of interior space. The residence spreads across multiple floors and contains a ballroom with oak flooring and walnut panels, along with dozens of bedrooms.
Soap manufacturer Arthur Crosfield commissioned architect George Hubbard to build the residence between 1913 and 1920 on the site of the former Parkfield estate. The Crosfield family had made their fortune in soap production and sought a representative home in Highgate.
The BBC used the property in the early 2000s as a backdrop for television productions. The rooms with their high ceilings and tall windows provided a suitable setting for programs requiring an upper-class environment.
The mansion is a private residence and not open to the public. The exterior can be seen from surrounding streets, though the property is set back behind high walls and extensive grounds.
After Buckingham Palace, this property is the second largest private residence in London. A two-story underground extension was added after 2008, running beneath the entire footprint of the main house.
