Athlone House

Athlone House is a mansion in Highgate, London, displaying Dutch architectural elements mixed with classical design features. The structure displays a tall gable and Tudor-style chimneys that give it a distinctive appearance on the street.

Edward Brooke, an aniline dye manufacturer, commissioned this residence in 1872 with architects Edward Salomons and John Philpot. During World War II, the Royal Air Force Intelligence School used the building to train officers.

The house sits near Hampstead Heath, a space where residents and visitors alike enjoy walking paths and open green areas that define the neighborhood character.

The mansion underwent extensive restoration after 2016, adding modern features like an underground swimming pool and tennis courts to the grounds. Keep in mind this is a private residence and can only be viewed from the exterior.

Local residents launched a successful campaign lasting around 18 years to prevent demolition of the building. Thousands of supporters signed petitions to ensure its preservation for future generations.
