Joseph Sturge memorial, Limestone memorial in Five Ways, Birmingham, England
The Joseph Sturge Memorial features a central figure in teaching pose with a Bible and two allegorical female statues representing Peace and Charity.
The monument was unveiled on June 4, 1862, before a crowd of 12,000 people near the former residence of Joseph Sturge, an English Quaker and abolitionist.
The memorial depicts Peace holding a dove with an olive branch and Charity comforting two Afro-Caribbean children, symbolizing the fight against slavery.
Birmingham City Council maintains this Grade II listed building, which underwent restoration between 2006 and 2007 to mark the Slave Trade Act bicentenary.
The statue incorporates words Charity, Temperance and Peace around the plinth crown, along with a bronze plaque detailing Sturge's social reform achievements.
