St Mark's, Battersea Rise, Gothic Revival church in Battersea, England.
St Mark's is a church in Battersea designed as a Gothic Revival building with yellow brick walls accented in red, creating a warm and distinctive color scheme. The structure features a wooden belfry topped by a shingled spire located at the southwest corner tower.
The church was designed by architect William White between 1872 and 1874, drawing on Gothic architectural principles from medieval times. It was later designated as Grade II* listed, recognizing its historical importance as a protected structure.
The church experienced a revival in 1987 through a church plant from Holy Trinity Brompton, which brought 50 new members to the congregation.
The interior layout includes a welcome hall and meeting spaces on the main level, with an ambulatory that provides circulation through the upper areas. A lower crypt level offers additional functional spaces beneath the main floor.
Stone-carved capitals throughout the interior were created by artist Harry Hems atop concrete piers, adding handcrafted detail to the space. These sculptural elements showcase the artistry and attention to craft that defined the original construction.
