Caddington Hall, Manor house in Markyate, England
Caddington Hall was a manor house located in Markyate that sat near the boundary between Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. The building displayed 19th-century architectural features and served as a notable country residence in the local landscape.
The Pedley family acquired the estate in 1804 and built a new manor house that remained standing until its demolition in 1975. This new construction replaced earlier structures on the land and shaped the site's story for over 150 years.
The estate represented the local architectural traditions of Bedfordshire country houses and maintained connections with the surrounding Markyate community.
The estate was later converted into apartments and now serves purposes other than its original function. Visitors should know that the former site is shaped by modern land use and little of the original structures remains.
The site sat in an interesting border zone between two counties, which remained administratively significant for Caddington parish until 1897. This geographical feature made the location administratively unusual in the region.
