St Andrew's Castle, Artillery fort ruins at Hamble Common, Hampshire, England.

The stone fortification consisted of a square keep and a semi-circular gun platform overlooking Southampton Water near the Solent waters.

Henry VIII ordered the construction of St Andrew's Castle between 1542 and 1543 as part of his coastal defense program against France.

The castle served as a military stronghold with a garrison including a master gunner, porter, and six soldiers under William Paulet's command.

Coastal erosion continues to affect the remaining fragments of masonry and earthworks, which are protected as a scheduled monument under British law.

The fortress incorporated a 25-meter-wide moat and wooden breakwater structure to reinforce its defensive capabilities against naval attacks.
