Inchdrewer Castle, Tower house near Banff, Scotland

The stone fortress stands on elevated ground 5.6 kilometers southwest of Banff, featuring thick defensive walls and multiple floors characteristic of Scottish architecture.

The Ogilvie family acquired the castle in 1557, transforming it into their residence until the property transferred to the Abercromby family in the early 1800s.

The structure represents the traditional Scottish tower house design, which combined residential comfort with defensive capabilities during the medieval period.

The castle requires extensive restoration work as it has remained uninhabited since 1836, with only basic external repairs completed between 1965 and 1971.

The murder of George Ogilvy, 3rd Lord Banff, occurred within these walls in 1713, where perpetrators concealed his body before setting the castle ablaze.
