Graig Ddu quarry, Slate quarry in Blaenau Festiniog, Wales.

Located near Blaenau Festiniog in North Wales, Graig Ddu quarry features 36 saw tables and dressing machines for slate processing operations.

The quarry started operations around 1800 under the name Manod Quarry and transformed into Graig Ddu during the 1840s, employing 86 workers until its closure in 1946.

The quarry represents the industrial heritage of Wales, where slate mining shaped local communities and contributed to regional architectural development.

The site implemented a three-pitch incline transport system in 1867 to move slate towards Tan y Manod, connecting with the Bala and Festiniog Railway.

Workers at Graig Ddu used 'ceir gwyllt', single-rail skateboards with supporting arms, to descend from the workings to the main road.
