Tayside House, 18-story office building in central Dundee, Scotland
Tayside House was a modern office building with a squared footprint that rose 18 stories above central Dundee. Large windows on all sides gave workers open views across the city and surrounding landscape.
The building was completed in 1975 and initially served as the administrative center for Tayside Regional Council. After the regional council dissolved in 1995, several local authorities took over the building until its demolition in 2013.
The building served as a major workplace for Dundee residents and shaped the city's skyline for nearly 40 years. It was a place where hundreds of employees worked daily managing regional affairs.
The building sat near the A991 road and was connected to the nearby Olympia Leisure Centre via an elevated pedestrian walkway. This direct link made it safe and convenient for pedestrians to move between the office space and recreational facilities.
The building's windows were positioned to offer some of Dundee's finest views, as noted by architectural historian Charles McKean. This detail gave it unexpected qualities for everyday observation, despite its straightforward modern design.
